Crane Days of Summer

We are thrilled to bring you an exciting update on the restoration journey of the revered 722 steam engine. Our dedicated team has been hard at work, meticulously preparing for the tasks that lie ahead. We’re delighted to share the latest developments as we gear up for a pivotal moment in this captivating revival. The next coming days mark a significant milestone in our restoration saga as we eagerly await the arrival of the crane. To ensure a seamless and safe lifting process, we have crafted specialized lifting eyes and removed the mounting bracket bolts from the tender. This painstaking process sets the stage for the upcoming disassembly. Our dedicated team has embarked on the task of disassembling the locomotive frame. This has allowed us to gently remove the pony truck and driving wheels, exposing the core of this mechanical masterpiece. With the pony truck and driving wheels now carefully detached, the locomotive frame is poised for its next chapter. To facilitate movement and provide a secure base, we will position the frame atop a set of temporary trucks. We will then ship the wheels and journal boxes for machining. By marrying historical authenticity with modern precision, we aim to ensure optimal performance and pay homage to the steam engine’s legacy. As the 722 Steam engine’s transformation unfolds, we approach the next pivotal phase. The locomotive frame and spring rigging are poised to undergo a rejuvenating sandblasting process. The layers of time and wear will be gently lifted, allowing us to inspect every nook and cranny. Our examination will uncover any signs of damage, setting the stage for comprehensive repairs. We invite you to stay tuned for the unfolding chapters of this remarkable restoration tale. Together, we honor the past, embrace the present, and kindle the flame of the 722’s timeless allure for generations to come.
